Climb VT of the Darkness June 15

Past event

Today, one in seven new mothers suffers from postpartum depression, identified as the most common complication of childbirth, the most untreated, and the most likely to cause dysfunctional, emotional, and developmental problems among children (American Academy of Pediatrics). Instead of being happy and content as society seems to expect them to be, those with postpartum depression struggle, often without support.

If you or someone you love has been touched by a perinatal mood or anxiety disorder (PMAD), join us on Saturday, June 15th for Central Vermont's 2nd annual Climb Out of the Darkness.

The Climb is the world's largest awareness-raising event devoted to perinatal mental health. It is also a fundraiser: our goal is to raise $5000 for the Good Beginnings Postpartum Angel program that brings vital community support and respite to any local family with a new baby.

We gather to break down the stigma that has kept parents from reaching out for help, to connect with others who have experienced a PMAD, and to build better community supports for families during the perinatal period.

After a stroller-friendly community walk on the bike path to the Peace Park and back, Climbers are invited to linger on the State House Lawn for a Self Care Tent for parents and caregivers.

Anyone who raises $100 or more will win a prize! Thanks to local businesses who donated prizes: Aromed, Aubuchon Hardware, Bear Pond Books, Katie's Jewels, Rebel Heart, Woodbury Mountain Toys, Barre Jazzercise, Quirky Pet, Capital Kitchen, the Drawing Board, Splash, Boutique No. 9. and more...

Whether or not you choose to fundraise, all are welcome to come for connection and to show your support.
