Join us June 29th and 30th, 10:00am - 2:00pm, at Rock Point in Burlington and learn to build your own earthen bread and pizza oven using natural materials, sourced from here in the Champlain Valley! Using stone, clay, sand, straw, and wood, we will explore the entire construction process, from foundation to a fully insulated earthen cob oven. These two daytime sessions will include hands-on construction, lecture, and discussion of building fundamentals such as siting, design, structure, moisture protection, materials selection, heating and insulation. Join us and develop the skills needed to build your own backyard oven, and feed your friends and family deliciously baked meals.
We're building a second clay oven at Rock Point, under a protective structure recently constructed by Youth Build. We'll cover foundational elements of structural design, how to build an insulated foundation, integrating an outdoor oven into your landscape, and all of the steps involved in building the oven itself. Attendees can expect a hands-on, fast-paced learning experience, with a blend of discussions and experiential learning.
Lunches provided, please let us know about any dietary restrictions - we'll be cooking pizzas in the existing oven for lunch! Accommodations are not included, but let us know if you require overnight housing.
Instructors include Chuck Courcy of Rock Point, and Rowan Cignoni of Burlington Permaculture.
