Relocalizing VT: The Sky is Falling (Literally)

Past event
Jun 6, 2019, 9 to 10:30 AM

Coming up Thursday on Goddard College Community Radio - meteor strikes happen more often than you think, and the surprising new science of how climate change is affecting Vermont.

9:00 - 10:00 am
Local weather forecaster Roger Hill recently packed the Unitarian Church in Montpelier for his talk on how climate change is hitting Vermont—and his talk helped me finally understand the connection between global warming and the deep troughs in the jet stream that have brought such weird weather here, to tornado alley, the Sierras, and other places. He and I will talk about some of the more fundamental science and startling conclusions he presented.

And Gordon Dillow witnessed a 4 am fireball and explosion from his back porch in Arizona. His amazement led to his research for the newly released book, Fire in the Sky: Cosmic Collisions, Killer Asteroids, and the Race to Defend Earth.

10:00 - 10:30 am
Resilience Thoughts, a locally told Extempo story, plus upcoming events related to energy, food, and the local economy at the end of the age of oil.
