Having been a member of the MMU School Board and CESU Executive Committee for many years, I would encourage everyone to attend the Thursday evening meeting and to vote YES to endorse Huntington joining the rest of the Chittenden East District to not only make a cohesive administrative unit for the towns involved but also enhance learning opportunities, school choice options, and create an overall economic efficiency. Acting as a unit, rather than a body of eight separate schools working together has proven to provide opportunity and support to community children in an efficient and economical approach. Huntington, maintaining an independent, stand alone position, does nothing to build the school community but does create ongoing negativity.
Litigation and failing to take an opportunity to offer an alternative plan as requested by Act 46 , indicates a disregard for the "greater good", i.e. collaboration which will ultimately benefit students. The emphatic support for joining in the union - voting yes on Thursday, by the Huntington teachers, underlines the importance of making MMUSD "whole" by those most closely involved. Please, do not miss this opportunity to accomplish which should have been accomplished with the prior initiative and vote YES on Thursday.
