The new Second Saturday community contra and square dance series continues this Saturday, June 8, 7:30 to 10:30 pm. This month's dance only will be held at a one-time special location of the Elks Lodge, 100 Eagle Street, North Adams, MA. All dances are taught, and everyone is welcome — no need to bring a partner or have previous experience. Admission is $12, or $5 for students and $25 for families.
The June dance features caller Luke Donforth and music by Cloud Ten, with Cedar Stanistreet on fiddle, Donal Sheets on cello and guitar, Arthur Davis on piano, banjo and trumpet and Ness Smith-Savedoff on drums.
On Saturday, July 13 the dance will return to its home venue in Williamstown, MA at 777 Main St., in the Williamstown Community Preschool — formerly the Methodist Church — at the corner of Route 2 and Route 43. The July dance features Bennington fiddler Matthew Christianson and multi-instrumentalist Max Carmichael, with caller Steve Howland.
The dances are organized by a new group, North Berkshire Community Dance, formed in affiliation with the national Country Dance and Song Society and the Dance Flurry Organization in Albany, NY. For more information, visit the website at www.northberkshiredance.org.
