Neat Event at Harwood Next Week

There's a great event at Harwood next week and I just wanted to make sure you'd heard about it. On Monday evening (6/3) from 6 to 8PM, students who have participated in the Flexible Pathways program will be talking about their experiences. These are high school students, typically in 10th through 12th grade, who have worked with the school to set up alternate learning experiences either within or outside the school -- independent studies, internships, apprenticeships... Last year, projects ranged from learning to pilot planes, to working with EMTs, to lab research at UVM, to working in a local auto mechanic shop, to developing a new literature class at Harwood.

Who might want to go Monday evening? I think anyone would enjoy hearing about the great learning students are pursuing and how the school has been able to support this... but especially if you're a parent of a younger student who might enjoy/benefit some nontraditional learning opportunities, you and your kiddo might love to learn a little more about how it works and meet the folks behind it all.

Or, if you're feeling a little bummed about the state of the world, or public schools, or "young people these days," this could be a lovely reminder of the human energy and grace that undercuts the bummer headlines we keep seeing. I left last year's presentation with enough inspiration and joy to carry me for days. See you there!
