Mixed-media Paintings by Larry Bowling
On display May 31st - July 12th

My approach to painting is process driven, utilizing my innate desire to create. I use layering, obfustcation and scraping to create images that explore my inner self, letting the paint guide me while at the same time maintaining control of the process.

I express intangible emotions using tangible means and realize my visions and dreams in two dimensions.

The Ghost Girl Series: Portraits of Strong Women by Cleopatra Redbird

SafeArt will host an opening reception for Montpelier-based artist, Cleopatra Redbird. Her ongoing Ghost Girl Series, examines female portraiture through delicate line work and minimal color. Each portrait depicts a woman wearing her mask of power, inspired by the changing seasons of Vermont and the strong women she has met throughout her life. Cleopatra started working at SafeArt last September and continues to find herself surrounded by powerful and encouraging women. Bring your kids (or inner kid!) and enjoy mask making and tarot reading with other SafeArt staff.

Revered Vermont Libraries: Drawings in Prismacolor by Gary Barron of Woodstock
On display May 1st - June 30th

"There is a remarkable abundance of examples found as one begins to explore the merits of the architectural history found in Vermont. Generally speaking, for many towns statewide, there fortunately exists an underlying sentiment that: keeping abreast of 21st century design norms is at best a matter of negligible concern. As a result it is the good fortune of many communities who have, over the years, handed down a legacy of appreciation in the preservation of these aged architectural gems which speak of an era when building design was not based on brevity of detail, nor tethered to modernistic design doctrines. It just seems to be understood that what was good enough for past generations is still good enough for today."

Gary Barron has a background in architecture and architectural history.

The library's youth program will curate an exhibit along the North Common made of commonly-recycled materials.
