"The Human Face of War: Afghanistan Photographs by Lt.col. Mark C. Biron". An avid photographer since his youth, Lt. Col. Mark C. Biron (1958-2018) turned to his camera to document the events around him throughout his service in the military. In addition to serving as an army photographer in Macedonia, he also photographed the daily life of his tank crew while a tank commander in Germany and events of the Gulf War during his service in that conflict. Many of his photos are on display in Washington D.C. These photos were taken during his tour of duty in Afghanistan, providing a glimpse into the life of refugees and villagers and their interaction with American troops in the city of Gardez, capital of Paktia Province. Lt. Col. Biron was the recipient of numerous awards, including the Bronze Star Medal. Opening Reception Friday, June 7, 6 to 8 pm at The 99 Gallery and Center, School Street, Newport.
