The Baldwin Library in Wells River will host a discussion of the book "March" by John Lewis on Wednesday, June 5 at 6:30 pm. The first in a trilogy, this graphic novel by Congressman Lewis begins his story as a civil rights activist in the 1960's. As a college student, he became involved in the student movement to challenge racial segregation with non-violent sit-ins at lunch counters. He went on to take part in the Freedom Rides across the south and eventually became Chair of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). Lewis is considered to be one of the "Big Six" civil rights leaders of that crucial time period. The VT Humanities Council chose his book as the 2019 pick for VERMONT READS, a state-wide community reading and discussion program. Copies are available at the Baldwin and Tenney Libraries. Related programming will follow later in the month in both Newbury and Wells River.
