Grow Your Own Vegetables! Come to the Weathersfield Proctor Library on Wednesday May 29 at 6:30 PM to learn about our new Seed Library. "Weathersfield Grows!" is a free community project offering seeds of dozens of varieties of vegetables, herbs, and flowers. Our goal is to get more people exploring gardening and growing food. Come see what we have and take home some free seeds to grow your own.
Whether your garden is as small as a flower pot or as big as a football field, growing your own vegetables is deeply rewarding. It makes your food more "real," and gives you fresher, tastier, and healthier food. It lets you explore varieties that you'll never find in the store. With weather hardships around the country and rising fuel prices making store-bought produce supplies more vulnerable and more expensive, home-grown saves money. And growing our own food is an important component of community health, food security and local self-reliance.
Seeds can get expensive, especially if you've never gardened before, and most of us don't plant a whole packet of everything. Some of us like to try out several varieties and only need a few seeds of each. A seed library makes a lot of seed affordable and available to a lot more people, and the seeds of many kinds of vegetable can be harvested and donated back to the library for others to share our success.
Come join local gardeners and neighbors of every skill level to share our library of hundreds of varieties of edible and pollinator plants, and help launch "Weathersfield Grows!" Have a surplus of seeds to share? Bring them along to add to the library! For more information contact the library at (802) 674-2863.
