Making Fear Our Ally - Applied Mindfulness Training at the St. Johnsbury Athenaeum
Human beings have a tendency to try to avoid the things that scare us, often by denying that we feel any fear at all. By applying mindfulness, we can begin to recognize the disguises fear wears so we can face it directly and unflinchingly. This attitude toward fear allows us to meet life's uncertainty with resilience and humor.
This second class in a four-session series will be on Wednesday, May 22nd from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the St. Johnsbury Athenaeum; it is designed to help both beginning and experienced meditators gain a fresh perspective on what frightens us and learn to harness the energy of fear to meet life's challenges more skillfully. Subsequent classes will be held at the same time on the fourth Wednesdays of June and July.
Basic mindfulness meditation instruction will be given at each session, so beginners are welcome at any time. For those already practicing mindfulness, each month we'll explore tools for and advantages of applying it in different everyday situations.
In addition to mindfulness meditation, we'll explore other contemplative disciplines including using mindful journaling as a tool for exploring experience. The program will be led by Carol Hyman, Executive Director of Applied Mindfulness Training, and Reeve Lindbergh, author and board member of Applied Mindfulness Training.
