Montpelier Contra Dance—live on Saturday!

Great music, calling and dancing have been happening at the Capital City Grange Hall since 1983, according to our sources. Join us on Saturday, May 18th!

Dereck Kalish, a Massachusetts-based caller who travels around New England, will be leading the "newcomers" session at about 7:45 PM, and will call fun, social dances for everyone from 8:00 to 11:00. If you are new to this type of dancing, or would like a refresher on the basics, come on over for the intro session.

Atlantic Crossing, a great Vermont band who have played for our dances many times before, will be back with strong rhythms, traditional and original tunes from the British Isles, as well as from Maritime and French Canadian traditions. Viveka Fox (fiddle & hand drums), Peter MacFarlane (fiddle & low whistles) and Rick Klein (guitar) combine for excellent dance music.

Tips for dancers: bring clean shoes for dancing on "one of the best dance floors in New England", or clean them up with our tools. Wear light, comfortable clothing. Bring a water bottle, or keep hydrated with our water fountains. Come by yourself and find dance partners in our friendly group, and bring your friends!

Capital City Grange Hall is at 6612 Rt. 12, just south of the I-89 overpass, 1 mile south of Montpelier. Admission—basic price is $10 for adults, $5 for kids & low-income, and $15 dance supporters.
