The Burlington School District Parent University Program works closely with community partners to provide classes to parents that enrich, engage, and empower them as equal partners in the education and well-being of their children. Our Spring Session focused on preventative measures for substance abuse, understanding the opioid crisis, internet security, safe driving practices, and many more learning opportunities and resources for healthy youth development and academic success.
The program positively impacts our community's parents not only by teaching valuable skills and knowledge that will benefit both parents and children (i.e. parenting skills, budgeting, finding employment), but also by promoting an inclusive culture, helping participants to feel welcome and valued in their school community, which is crucial in empowering them to become a partner in their children's education.
BSD's Parent University has 22 graduates this year and to celebrate their hard work, dedication, and time, we are having our Graduation Celebration June 19th, 3:30 - 6:00 PM at The Flynn Center for the Performing Arts. The celebration is free and open to the public, so please join us for food, entertainment, and most of all, to congratulate the parents!
