Spring Move Out Project (SMOP) Assists Students Moving Out of Burlington
Dear Neighbors,
We know it is a busy time in your neighborhoods as people move in and out of rental units in the city. We appreciate your patience as the Spring Move Out Project (SMOP) team works to make the transition of hundreds of households as smooth as possible. Here is a partial list of the many actions we are taking:
(1) Students Moving Out of Their Rentals: Come to the SMOP Event:
Thursday, May 23
11 am to 3 pm
Two Burlington Sites: Loomis St. and Buell St.
- Get rid of items in good shape for FREE
- Dispose of items in bad shape/other trash for a SMALL FEE
Remember that trash left on the greenbelt is subject to a fine of up to $500.
(2) To spread the word, we are distributing our "7 Spring Move Out Tips" brochure door-to-door, to local stores, and at on-campus venues; putting up lawn signs in neighborhoods; using social media; and advertising in Seven Days.
(3) Burlington Code Enforcement inspectors will be in the neighborhoods noting issues. If you see areas of concern you would like to see them address, such as furniture on the green belt:
- Check to see if someone has made a report on Code Enforcement's SeeClickFix site (https://seeclickfix.com/burlington_2/report)
- If there is no report, you can submit one on the same site.

Thank You,
The SMOP Team: University of Vermont, Burlington Code Enforcement, Burlington Community & Economic Development Office, Champlain College, Chittenden Solid Waste District, ReSOURCE, Casella, & Myers.
