Fly Kites Not Drones

Past event

Afghans traditionally celebrate Nowruz (New Year) by flying kites on hilltops, however they are now more used to seeing drones in their skies. In 2013 the number of civilians killed by drones increased threefold, accounting for 40% of the total number of civilian airstrike deaths. When not used to kill, surveillance drones take a mental toll on civilians as they hover in the sky for up to 80 hours. This event is in solidarity with Afghan Peace Volunteers to end drone usage. Don't forget a kite!
