Dear Neighbors,
This coming Monday, the City Council will hold its first of two meetings for the month of May. We will begin our meeting at 7pm.
Following a brief Local Control Commission agenda, we have two items on our deliberative agenda:
• We will have a presentation from Chief of Police, Brandon del Pozo, on the Burlington Police Department's Use of Force Policy, Training and Reviews. This is in response to the recent release of bodycam videos showing use of force that has resulted in injuries and considerable public concern. A number of councilors requested this communication and we welcome the community to attend our meeting and share your thoughts during public forum.
• We will have a presentation from the Chittenden Solid Waste District on their FY2020 budget. We had this presentation at our April 29 meeting but there were questions and we referred the matter to the Council's Transportation, Energy and Utilities Committee for further review. That committee met last week and reviewed the budget. I attended that meeting. A number of thoughtful questions were asked and I think we will be more informed at Monday's meeting and better able to make a decision on our approval of this budget.
Please keep in mind that you are always welcome to come to a Council meeting and speak on any topic you wish during public forum. This begins at a time certain of 7:30pm at every Council meeting.
