Drop-in opportunity for all ages to experience these crafts

Without paper and ink, the abolitionists who once lived at Rokeby could not have worked with their network of people to assist fugitives from slavery. Nor could they have printed posters to advocate for the end of slavery.

Fast forward about 190 years to Rokeby Museum today. Papermaker Jon Turner (Wild Roots Farm, Bristol, VT), letterpress printer John Vincent (A Revolutionary Press, New Haven, VT) and bookbinder Jane Ploughman (Ploughgirl Press, New Haven, VT.) are offering families and adults the opportunity to get a taste for paper making, book binding and letterpress printing. Appropriate for ages 5 and up, participants will roll up their sleeves to make paper from natural fibers, learn about - and try - 19th center table-top printing presses, and bind a simple book made from handmade paper.

SATURDAY, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on SUNDAY 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. $12/person (materials included)
