The Northfield Energy Committee (NEC) is coordinating with Green Mountain Transit (GMT) to host a Bus-To-Work Week for Northfield commuters beginning on May 20. A variety of activities will take place during the week to celebrate and showcase the local transit opportunities available to the Northfield community. The existence of the GMT routes for Northfield were approved by a community vote at the March 2019 Town Meeting.
- Monday morning will begin the week with NEC members providing wake-up treats to get the day started for AM commuters. In the afternoon representatives from the Northfield Farmer's Market will host a 'Mobile Mini-Market' to provide riders with samples to purchase and information about Market options.
- On Tuesday a raffle for commuter tickets will be held at the Northfield Farmer's Market. NEC Board members will also be available at the Market to answer questions.
- On Wednesday wake-up treats and conversation will be available on the Northfield Community Shuttle.
- On Thursday, bike to Montpelier - Take the bus back!
- On Friday and throughout the week Northfield 'celebrities' will be available to visit with riders and answer questions about Northfield's transportation future.
Also, throughout the week:
'Bus Buddies' are being promoted—where existing riders take a friend with them on the bus.
The Brown Public Library will have a special display of selections on bus and transportation-related readings for adults and for children.

The Northfield Energy Committee was endorsed by the Northfield Select Board in January 2019. Its role is to recommend and advocate energy-saving measures for the Town of Northfield and inform and coordinate Town efforts around energy issues. In April the NEC hosted a Transportation Conversation to hear GMT suggestions and concerns from Northfield citizens. This Bus-To-Work Week effort is an outgrowth of ideas generated at that forum.
