KITCHEN TUNKS & PARLOR SONGS: COLLECTING OLD-TIME MUSIC IN VERMONT

In the 1980s, Mark interviewed and recorded old-time, grass roots Vermont musicians, resulting in a video documentary, The Unbroken Circle (1985), and a CD anthology, Kitchen Tunks & Parlor Songs (2003). In this presentation, I discuss my experiences searching for old-time music and collecting oral histories in Vermont and how earlier music survived in the 20th century and was affected by that century's social and technological developments. This program is a Vermont Humanities Council program hosted by the Readsboro Community Library. (Supported in part by the National Endowment for the Humanities. Any views, findings, conclusions, or recommendations expressed in this program do not necessarily represent those of the NEH or VHC.) ****This program is to be held at 7012 Main Street, Readsboro at the E J Bullock Building
