Middlebury Community Chorus in Concert This Sunday!

Past event
May 5, 2019, 3 to 4 PM

Come hear the Community Chorus in this free, hour-long program at 3pm this Sunday, May 5, at Robison Concert Hall in the Mahaney Arts Center. The program features many songs receiving their first-ever Vermont performance! Middlebury Union High School junior Romy Munkres, Young Tradition Vermont 2018 contest winner, performs Celtic and Norwegian tunes uniquely arranged for fiddle and chorus. Also, music by Vermont College of Fine Arts graduate Kyle Pederson, and by Gwyneth Walker and Susan LaBarr who set Sara Teasdale's poetry. Irish composer Michael McGlynn's "Sunshine" celebrates summer; Norwegian-American composer Ola Gjeilo's song "The Rose" lyrically depicts this flower's beauty; Haitian-American composer Sydney Guillaume's "Kanaval" portrays Mardi Gras festivities in his homeland. "Music, Spread Thy Voice Around" by G. F. Handel alongside rarely heard choruses (include a unique "Hallelujah" chorus!) from his "Triumph of Time and Truth" round out the program. Jeff Rehbach conducts, with pianist Tim Guiles and special guest percussionist Damascus Kafumbe.

Note: This year's concert is a week earlier than Mother's Day, when we often perform. If you can't make it on Sunday, we invite to drop by one of our rehearsals in the concert hall, Tuesday evening, Apr. 30, 7:15-9:00pm, or Saturday morning, May 4, 9:15-10:45 am.
