Spend your evening learning more about the three generations that live and work at the Wilder Farm in Lyndonville.
Wilder Farm is a 200 year-old family farm in Lyndonville, Vermont. For several generations, it was a dairy farm run by the Simpson family. W. Arthur Simpson, who held many positions in state and local government, was a well-known breeder of Milking Shorthorn cattle. His son Leland ran a thriving dairy and also served as a state representative for many years. Leland and Zelda Simpson's children and grandchildren still live on the farm, keeping buildings and woodlots well-maintained and continuing farming practices that care for the land.
Jess Simpson & Justin Krause raise a diverse variety of fresh, tasty produce for CSA shares (Community Supported Agriculture), a farmer's market and a farmstand. Vegetables are grown using organic and sustainable practices that increase soil fertility using minimal inputs. This will be their 6th year growing food for market. Their children, Wilson and Ben (ages 15 and 12), help with the vegetable operation, as well as haying and firewood gathering with their grandparents, great aunts and uncle.
Mary Simpson of Haymaker Prints creates iconic rural images cut from linoleum or vinyl. They are printed by hand in layers, color by color, with water based inks on acid free paper and matted with archival materials. Many of her images are used to create smaller greeting cards. Mary's art can be found at the Northeast Kingdom Artisan's Guild in St. Johnsbury, the Artisan's Hand in Montpelier, and other stores around the state.

The Evening:
Justin & Jess will present a plant-based dinner sourced from their farm. Justin will discuss his year-long journey eating an exclusively whole food/plant-based diet and how that has impacted his health and fitness. Jess will talk about the evolution of their low-till, sustainable vegetable farm and CSA. Jess's Mom, Mary Simpson, will share her "Haymaker Prints," many with images of the family farm.
Menu:
Our menu will include entirely plant-based, vegan courses that are also oil free and gluten free (with the exception of bread). Dishes are made with ingredients sourced from the farm (organic/not certified) as well as local and/or certified organic ingredients. We will start with a Farm Fresh Salad, two of our favorite dressings and Dilly Beans. Next, a Butternut Squash Soup with fresh baked French Bread. Our main course is a hearty Baked Sweet Potato Chili that is Justin's favorite! We will end the night with some sweet bites (we don't skimp on the maple syrup!).
BYOB Recommendation:
We feel the restrictions of the plant-based diet lend themselves well to splurging on the alcohol calories. Although beer and wine are "processed" in their creation, we love that magical process of yeast and time. We would recommend any beverage that you enjoy, but personally, a good craft IPA is our favorite.
Parking: There is on street parking on Eastern Avenue
Arrival: Please arrive promptly at 6:30pm so that we can begin our evening together
BYOB: Please bring your own alcoholic beverage if you wish. We will be providing coffee, tea and seltzer.
