Relocalizing VT: Who is Hungry?

Past event
Apr 25, 2019, 9 to 10:30 AM

Coming up Thursday on Goddard College Community Radio - Taking stock of hunger in the Montpelier area, and learning from childhood trauma how to get to root causes of many health issues.

9:00 - 10:00 am
This Saturday, the Food Justice Committee of Just Basics is providing space for a community conversation about hunger in the area and the programs in place to help people get enough to eat. Jamie Bedard of Just Basics and Scott Hess of the Montpelier Unitarian Church's Monday community lunches will talk about the faces of hunger locally.

The event will take place 10 am to noon on Saturday, April 27 at Trinity Methodist Church in Montpelier.

Kimberly Pierce has worked as a physician's assistant at the Plainfield Health Center for three decades, and her ideas about patients' health were upended a few years ago, when she learned that childhood trauma was linked to heart and liver disease, sexually transmitted diseases, and other things not intuitively connected. She's working to get the medical community to use this knowledge to treat patients better—and she'll tell you how to talk to your primary care provider about the topic, and why it's important.

10:00 - 10:30 am
Resilience Thoughts, a locally told Extempo story, plus upcoming events related to energy, food, and the local economy at the end of the age of oil.
