It's our Anniversary! Help the Pownal Historical Society celebrate 25 years of preserving Pownal's history, Sunday, April 28th at 2:00 PM at the Solomon Wright Public Library.

Following the Annual Business Meeting, which involves election of board members, we will be celebrating the Historical Society's anniversary with cake and sharing memories and highlights of the past 25 years. Among our many activities and events:
-Town-wide celebration of Pownal's 250th birthday in 2010 & Community Quilt presentation;
-creation of the Pownal Center Historic District, also in 2010;
-installation of the flagpole and American Flag at Pownal Elementary School;
-bus tour of historic sites in Pownal;
-annual study of local history with one 4th grade class at Pownal Elementary and production of a commemorative book;
-annual presentation of dictionaries to all 3rd graders at Pownal Elementary;
-a special 'Dutch Dinner' in 2015;
-and donations to community organizations including the Pownal Food Pantry, local churches and the Solomon Wright Library.

Moving forward we are working to save Schoolhouse #8, Pownal's last remaining one-room school, and continuing our research on Pownal's section of the 'The Lost Trail'
(that follows the Hoosic River) and early Dutch history in Pownal.

We are a small but dedicated volunteer group, working to preserve and share Pownal's history. All are invited to celebrate 25 years with us on Sunday April 28th, and invite your friends. Thank you for your support!
