Bill Cole is an American jazz musician, composer, educator and author. Cole, who now makes his home in Thetford, is an elder (at age 81) in the international jazz community. He brings a unique musical experience to the Commons @ BALE in South Royalton on Friday, April 19 at 7 p.m. An admired innovator, Cole successfully combines the sounds of "untampered" instruments with the American art form… jazz. Cole specializes in non-Western wind instruments, especially double reed horns. Cole, the former Chair of the Music Department at Dartmouth College, will performs solo didgeridoo. The program lasts about an hour, during which time the music will continue uninterrupted. How is this possible on a wind instrument? Cole practices "cycle breathing" whereby he breathes in and out at the same time. Following the performance, he will talk about this practice and his instrument, and answer questions from the audience. This program is free but seating will be limited to first-come (as always, donations are welcome). For more information, contact Chris at 802-498-8438.
