Gardening for Prestigious Pollinators
Setting the Home Stage for Bees, Butterflies, Birds & More
Friday April 12th 7:00 pm at Shrewsbury Library
Insect pollinator populations are declining on a global scale, threatening our natural ecosystems and crop production. Managed pollinators like honey bees, and wild pollinators - moths, flies, and butterflies - face a multitude of stressors including pesticides, habitat loss, and climate change.
It is vital to create habitats for pollinators in our own landscapes and gardens, from formal designs to open meadows. The relationship between plants and pollinators is at the heart of successful pollination. This workshop will cover why pollinators are important, current threats to pollinators, and which pollinator species visit which plant types of plants and why. Included will be a hands on design exercise for the home garden and pollinator plant selection resources.
