Equal Justice Initiative Presentation

In late January, I traveled to the Legacy Museum and the National Memorial for Peace and Justice in Montgomery, Alabama, as a part of a group of 15 Vermonters from around the state. The trip, sponsored by the Peace and Justice Center, proved a transformative experience for us all. We are excited to share some of that experience with others around the state! Please join us on Wednesday, April 24, from 6:30 – 8:00, in the Grand Isle School Library for a presentation and discussion about our experiences.

Both the museum and memorial are part of the Equal Justice Initiative, an organization founded by Bryan Stevenson, author of the book "Just Mercy" (https://museumandmemorial.eji.org/). The museum is designed to allow visitors to learn about - and feel - the experience of the domestic slave trade, racial terrorism, the Jim Crow South, and our current prison system. The memorial seeks to acknowledge the victims of racial terror lynchings. Both proved powerfully effective spaces to learn about and reflect on history and how it has informed our present moment.

Hope to see you on April 24th!
