An Apprentice Boat Builder in Japan.
In Japan, traditional arts and crafts are fast disappearing as modernization has broken down the traditional apprenticeship system. Since 1996, writer, researcher, and Vergennes resident Douglas Brooks has apprenticed with seven boat builders in Japan, building over a dozen types of Japanese wooden boats.
