This response post references a recent response to my criticisms of State Reps Chip Conquest and Sarah Copeland-Hanzas for their support in passing carbon tax bills through the house.
Well for one, weatherization is something we all agree can be helpful, we don't need to double the fuel tax to do it. Keeping our homes warm and vehicles as affordable as possible, is a huge priority for all of us; but doubling the fuel tax to limit carbon dioxide hurts more than just the very poor and working poor, it hurts the middle class as well.
The "Weatherization" Carbon TAX bill that recently passed the House, also hurts retired Veterans attempting to drive to the VA hospital in White River Junction, School districts tax liabilities around school buses, citizens that drive to work, Vermonters attempting to keep their cars inspected, elderly on a fixed income, single mothers that need to work and drive babies off to the doctors and keep a warm house;... the common denominator is the fuel tax that Copeland and Conquest voted to double on Bradford and Newbury's behalf.
Our representatives are responsible for their votes. They will distract the topic from the increased financial angst and cost to Vermonters, and speak more to the undefined "green economy". Yet, we are thoroughly cognizant that Vermont and it's citizens have the lowest carbon emissions footprint in the country, at .01 percent.
I stood up the "No Carbon TAX Vermont" group to resist the carbon tax bills supported by legislators, such as Representative Copeland-Hanzas (Bradford) and Representative Charles Conquest (Newbury) and their wealthy out of state environment lobbyist friends, VPIRG , 350.org and (UK owned) UNILEVER.
Please Join Vermonters at the Statehouse on May 26 at 9 am to noon for the Anti-Carbon Tax Protest.
