Showing of the documentary "Being Mortal"
6:30 – 8:00 pm Tuesday May 14, 2019, Varnum Public Library, Jeffersonville, VT.
This program follows renowned surgeon Atul Gawande, who teams with a PBS FRONTLINE crew challenging us all to reexamine how we think about end of life care, death, and dying. Through his research and true stories of his patients and his own family, Dr. Gawande explores how the application of medical advances often runs counter to good geriatric care and end of life medical practice.
The film explores the emerging art and science of palliative care and the ways in which reflecting on the question, "What are your priorities when your time is limited?" can empower us to live our lives more fully, all the way to the very end.
Beth Stern from Central Vermont Council on Aging and Nina Thompson from the Vermont Ethics Network will show the documentary and facilitate a discussion about end of life wishes and the importance of Advance Directives (which will be available in paper format).
