Brantview was the home of William P. and Rebecca Pike Fairbanks, designed by Lambert Packard, and built in 1883-84. "There are many handsome private residences in the various towns of the State, but the dwelling house recently erected in St. Johnsbury for Mr. William P. Fairbanks, Treasurer of the famous Fairbanks Scale Company, rivals in elegance and comfort any private residence ever built in this section." (Boston Journal, December 17, 1884)
"The situation of the mansion predicated its name: Brant, in Middle English, means high or steep; "Brantview" means high or steep view." (Caledonian Record, January 1, 1885)
Please join us at Brantview where Kurt Zschau, Director of Facilities; Tammi Sullivan Cady '88, Assistant Head for Advancement; and Carol Lyon, Assistant Head for Business Service, will discuss the renovation project and take us on a tour of of Brantview which is currently a dormitory for male boarding students.
This program is free to OLLI members. $6.00 to all others.
