Rutland's B&G Gallery is hosting an exhibit honoring a new American family. Prem and Mana Bhattarai met in a refugee camp in Nepal after the Bhutanese government stripped 100,000 people of their citizenship and during 1990-1992 forced them to flee the country. Prem and Mana spent two decades in the camp, where their children were born, before being resettled in the United States. They are now active members of the Winooski VT community.

The exhibit includes photos of the family and tales in their own words about their journey from Bhutan to Nepal to Winooski and their lives today.

Michelle Saffran (photographs) works in a number of media as well as teaching at the Community College of Vermont and St. Michael's College. In 2017, she produced portraits of 147 families of students at the Integrated Arts Academy in Burlington, with support from Burlington City Arts and the Kennedy Foundation. She received a Vermont Arts Council Creation Grant, and her work on the present exhibit was supported by the Vermont Community Foundation and a private donor.

David French (interviews and text) is the author of three books and more than two dozen articles in publications including The New York Times Magazine, Commonweal, World Development and AlterNet, as well as being the co-translator of a biography of Erik Satie for the M.I.T. Press. During 2014-2016, he volunteered with VSA Vermont ("the state organization on arts and disability"), writing accounts of VSA activities and profiles of people involved with its work.
