"Hemlock and the Cross: The Deaths of Socrates and Jesus"
In The Apology, Socrates wrote "To stand up for what you believe in is more Important than to be scared of imprisonment or death." This belief was also shared by Jesus, whose steadfast determination to hold to his beliefs resulted in crucifixion. There are more fascinating similarities between the two men, as Professor Voss will attest. There will be a question and answer period and coffee hour following the service.
Ken Voss is an emeritus professor of philosophy at Lyndon State College (Northern Vermont University) where he taught philosophy for 38 years. Before that, as an ordained minister in the Reformed Church in America, he had parishes in New York and New Jersey. He lives now in Sheffield with his wife Francie.
