I am leading a book group reading about the direction of our national experience. Have we gone or are we seriously off the rails? To some this might appear naive; to others Hansel and Gretel. One only has to try to get somewhere without breaking an axle to know our physical infrastructure is crumbling. The political environment isn't doing much better and as for the climate, Chicken Little might finally be right!
These are issues to be explored best through reading and I encourage you to join in the discussions. The group is currently reading TRIBE by Sebastian Junger.
TRIBE explores what we can learn from tribal societies about loyalty, belonging, and the eternal human quest for meaning. It explains the irony that-for many veterans war feels better than peace, adversity can turn out to be a blessing, and disasters are sometimes remembered more fondly than weddings or tropical vacations. TRIBE explains why we are stronger when we come together, and how that can be achieved even in today's divided world.
Copies of this book is currently available for loan at the Hartland Public Library. Our next discussion is Thursday, April 4 at 6:30 PM at this Library. Please bring your wisdom and join in this important dialog.
