Notice of Select Board and Planning Commission Public Meeting
With representatives from DRM / AT&T Wireless
Marlboro Town Office

Discussion of requested height change for previously recommended cell tower on "Snow Mountain" location at Rt. 9 (just below Whetstone Road and MacArthur Road).
In 2014, the Planning Commission and Select Board made a recommendation that AT&T build a communications tower on the "Snow Mountain" lot (Rt. 9, just below MacArthur Rd. and Whetstone Rd.) at a height of 120 feet. The tower would improve cell phone service up and down Rt. 9. However, construction never took place.
Now AT&T has come back to the SB and PC with their intention to commence with the construction, but they are asking that we reconsider our recommendation of the tower height. They are seeking to build the tower to their standard height of 140 feet. The height change, in their words, "will allow AT&T to improve its coverage and capacity in Marlboro beyond the 120' facility, both to support service for its customers, as well as to ensure optimum deployment of FirstNet in the area." (FirstNet is a federal agency with a mandate to create a nationwide, interoperable public safety broadband network for first responders).
They also claim that the 140' height will allow for more potential co-location on the tower, so that other cell phone companies have an option to provide service for the Rt. 9 corridor.
The Select Board and Planning Commission are co-hosting a public meeting with representatives from the DRM / AT&T to discuss their request for the height increase. Feel free to come to this meeting with questions, thoughts or concerns.
