Hello Neighbors,
On Saturday, March 23rd I will be hosting a conversation on "Small Town Ethics" at Shelburne Vineyard, from 6:30 to 8:30. This is a part of Public Philosophy Week organized by the University of Vermont's Department of Philosophy. The goal is to have a series of informal conversations throughout Vermont on a variety of "philosophical topics". So, come enjoy a glass of wine and conversation, and ponder such questions as:
Do the residents of Shelburne have obligations to the Town of Shelburne? Do we have some obligation, for instance, to participate in town affairs? Are we doing something wrong if we don't vote on Town Meeting Day? Are we obligated to volunteer our time in town or is doing so going "above and beyond"? What does our town owe to us? What does it mean for the town to conduct its affairs "ethically"? Is the town only obligated to spend our tax dollars wisely or does it owe its residents more than that? And do we owe the town more than just our tax dollars? What is an ethical government? What is an ethical resident? What are "Small town ethics", anyway?
Come talk about these questions and any others that you would like discuss related to the theme "Small Town Ethics", as we kick off Philosophy Week, March 23rd, 6:30 – 8:30
And feel free to email me with any topics or questions that you would like to discuss!
