Spring Equinox Ritual and Celebration

Past event
Mar 24, 2019, 12 to 3 PM

Although the snow is deep, spring is on the way! Join us as we recreate and reimagine ancient spring equinox rituals to honor the sun, animals, plants, and earth that sustain us.. The ritual will feature a battle between Winter and Spring, a procession of bears, the burning of an effigy of the sun, and songs,—both ancient and new—exalting the sun and the change of the seasons. Blini, Russian sourdough pancakes, yellow and round like the sun, will be served with maple syrup, plum jam, and our own fresh sheep cheese. Participants are invited to come dressed as bears, and to bring an egg.

If you would like to learn the songs we'll sing as part of the ritual, come at 11 am on Sunday. The songs will be from Lithuania, Georgia, Ukraine, and the U.S.

If you'd like to be in the battle between winter and spring, and learn the songs even better, you can come to rehearsals on Thursday March 21 at 5 pm and/or on Saturday March 23 at 10 am.

All at our farm, Cate Hill Orchard 697 Shadow Lake Road Greensboro 586-2059 for more info.
