The Calais Historic Preservation Commission has been active in recent efforts to recognize and preserve historic resources in the Town. On Monday evening, March 18, the group will put on a "show-and-tell" about its accomplishments and future plans. The Commission has acquired significant funding to help restore the Town Hall in Gospel Hollow. It was instrumental in the establishment of a National Register Historic District in North Calais Village. It has obtained grant funding for the nomination of such a district in E. Calais Village; a well-researched nomination document has been prepared. A future nomination for the Village of Adamant is under discussion. The program will be presented at THE RECREATION HALL, IN THE E. CALAIS POST OFFICE BUILDING, BEGINNING AT 7 PM. The event is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the Calais and E. Montpelier Historical Societies, who will also sponsor a POT-LUCK DINNER THAT WILL BEGIN AT 6 PM. Those attending the dinner should bring a dish of their choice to share, as well as a place setting (plate, fork, knife, etc.). The public is welcome to attend either or both portions of the evening's events. The two historical Societies will hold brief business meetings following the program (also open to the public).
