As Vermonters, we pride ourselves on our self-sufficiency, our resilience, and especially our willingness to help others in times of need.
SURVIVERMONT! is a program that was created in order to educate and empower Vermonters with (tried and true) information about what they can do to protect themselves and their family members in the event that they are confronted with an Active Shooter or Violent Threat situation, regardless of where they incident occurs. This preparedness training was created by the St. Albans Police Department, AmCare Ambulance Service, the Northwestern Medical Center and the Vermont Department of Health.
The program combines 3 easy-to-remember concepts from established national public safety programs:
See Something, Say Something
Run, Hide, Fight
Stop the Bleed

I took this training last winter when it was held at City Hall. And as much as I didn't want to admit that things have changed so much that we need this, I recognized how valuable it will be for as many people as possible to learn these concepts. I walked away empowered, I walked away with language to describe crises situations and I walked away knowing what to teach my kids that is both valuable and consistent with what they'll be learning at school. This is only one piece though in keeping our children and our community safe. Let's continue to learn together starting with this event. I do hope you'll consider attending and that you'll encourage others to come as well.
