Alive Inside: Film & Discussion
Please join us on Wednesday, March 20th at 12 PM for lunch and a film screening at our fourth workshop around Memory Loss and ways in which the Creative Arts (Art, Movement/Dance, Music & Writing) can be a source of joy and expression for those living with Memory Loss/cognitive challenges.
Join us for lunch & a film screening, followed by a discussion with Margie Bekoff, therapeutic musician, and Nancy Schaedel, memory expert. This stirring documentary follows social worker Dan Cohen as he fights against a broken healthcare system to demonstrate music's ability to combat memory loss and restore a deep sense of self to those living with it. An uplifting cinematic exploration of music and the mind, this inspirational and emotional story left audiences cheering.
Margie is a certified therapeutic musician who specializes in working with people with memory loss. Margie mentors therapeutic harp students in the International Harp Therapy Program and gives workshops at professional meetings about using music therapeutically for people with dementia. Margie had the good fortune to do her dementia training with Nancy Schaedel.
Nancy has worked with people experiencing dementia for the past 25 years. She was the program director for memory care at Helen Porter Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, served on the Governor's Commission for Alzheimer's disease and related conditions and has facilitated support groups and educational opportunities in the community.
Event is free and open to the public, but space is limited. Fully accessible.
