Neighborhood Planning Assemblies (NPAs) are grassroots, democratic organizations that offer residents an opportunity to discuss issues that affect their neighborhoods and to communicate with the City Council re neighborhood concerns. The NPA can be an extremely effective forum for addressing neighborhood issues and enhancing the vibrancy of our community. For example, recent NPA-facilitated discussions with the medical center resulted in a dramatic reduction in the impact of helicopters on residents on Bilodeau Court and East Ave.
We are in the process of revitalizing the Ward 1 and 8 NPA. Our goal is to make the meetings welcoming, and inclusive. We now have microphones in the room so it'll be easier hear, and we are working on a way to make it possible for people at home to participate in the meetings in real time. (If anyone out there has tech proclivities and would like to help us, we'd appreciate it.)
Our next meeting will be on Wednesday, March 13 at 7pm in the McClure Lobby Conference Room of the UVM Medical Center. Food will be served. We hope to see you there!
At the March 13 meeting, we will seek your ideas regarding topics that you'd like to address at future meetings. (some possibilities: facilitating neighborhood block parties and other social events, affordable housing, updates from city departments, and improving the relationship between students, long-term residents, UVM and the Medical Center) Please come with your ideas. If you can't make it to the meeting, please e-mail your suggestions to us.
And finally, if you'd made it this far through this long post, you probably either have an interest in the NPA or you're REALLY bored….. If you would like to become more involved in the NPA, and perhaps serve of the Steering Committee, please be in touch!
