Join us for a weekly meditation group at Sky Meadow Retreat in Stannard (near Hardwick and Greensboro) beginning Sunday March 17 at 4:00pm. We will share 40 minutes of silent sitting meditation followed by a 20 minute talk or related activity, and a 30 minute discussion intended to support you in practicing presence. Basic instructions and support will be offered to beginners as needed.
Led by author and founder of Sky Meadow, Miles Sherts, and other community members, the practice and teachings are inspired by, but not limited to, the Buddhist tradition of Insight Meditation or mindfulness, also know as Vipassana. The focus will be learning skills for working with your thinking mind and establishing a baseline of present moment awareness in your daily life.
Insight Meditation is a simple method of focusing attention on physical body sensations while letting go of thoughts, which results in calm serenity over time. The benefits of meditation include de-cluttering your mind and learning to manage your emotions, plus increased self-awareness, wisdom, contentment, and self-acceptance. No belief system or religious doctrine is required or promoted, and you may sit on a chair, sitting bench, or cushion. Donations to support this work are welcome, but not required.
