Vermont Chapter Presents Bach Organ Marathon

Past event
Mar 24, 2019, 1:30 PM

The fifth annual Bach organ marathon at Christ Episcopal Church, 64 State Street in Montpelier, will take place on Sunday, March 24th, 2019, starting at 1:30 p.m. This AGO-sponsored event is free and open to the public. Donations will support the music scholarship program in the Montpelier public schools.

The instrument, a Karl Wilhelm two-manual organ built in 1972 in the North German style of the late 1600's, is perfectly suited for the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, as is the acoustic in the neo-Gothic plaster-on-stone sanctuary.

Come for as long as you can! Piano students, playing the organ for the first time, begin the marathon at 1:30. Organists include Mark Howe (with a youth choir from St. Paul's), Lynnette Combs, Fred DeHaven, Jenny Bower and others. There will also be some enlightening remarks on Bach by Willem Lange, well-known speaker and VPR commentator. And refreshments, as well.

For more information, contact Lynnette Combs, (802) 371-5066, homeplacegirl@gmail.com.
