Living Behind the Iron Curtain in the 1980's: A Look Back

March 6th marks the final lecture in the Winter series of the Lamoille Valley Osher Lifelong Learning Institute held at The Commodore's Inn at 832 So. Main St. Route 100 Stowe, Vermont.

We are delighted to present Katherine Bielawa Stamper who will speak on her experiences as a graduate student studying Polish Philology and History at Jagiellonian University in Krakow during the years 1984-1986. This period covers the waning years of communism in Poland and the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. She is the daughter of Polish immigrants. Her father arrived in the United States in 1949, a Pole who survived forced labor camps in Nazi Germany. In 1959 her mother left Poland and traveled on a tourist visa to the United States. Katherine is currently the Development Director at Laraway Youth & Family Services; and also hosts a radio show, Present Time, on WBTV LP, 99.3 FM in which she strives to bring the voices of those less represented in our culture to the airwaves.

The lecture begins at 1:30 pm. Doors are open at 12:45. Please arrive early enough to be seated by 1:30 pm. The charge is $5 if you are not a series member.

Join us for coffee and refreshments immediately following the presentation.
