Sand Bar State Park Conceptual Design Public Meeting

Past event
Mar 19, 2019, 7 to 8:30 PM

The Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation is holding a public presentation and discussion about the future of Sand Bar State Park on Tuesday, March 19th from 7:00-8:30 PM at the Grand Isle Fire Station, 17 Hyde Road, Grand Isle, Vermont.

The purpose of this public meeting is to present conceptual plans, part of a master planning process, for improvements to the park. The master plan is part of the process to update the park to meet the needs of visitors, make the park safer, protect the environment and enhance historic and cultural resources.

Proposed improvements include:
1. Moving the park entrance 425' to the west of the current entrance to improve visibility and safety for park visitors entering and exiting the park.
2. Upgrading the stone bathhouse building to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. This will include adding accessible parking, a family restroom, and improvements to building entrances and exits. The proposed design would make the space rentable for small events and family gatherings and would introduce more natural light to the building interior.
3. Adding a new open-air pavilion east of the main bathhouse.
4. Increasing accessibility across the entire park, including travel from and between parking areas, the play area, bathrooms, stone building and the proposed pavilion.
