Hello everyone,

I am a member of the newly formed Tree Stewardship Committee in Barre City. We have had one formal meeting so far and our next one will be this Monday, March 4 @ 6p-7p at the Aldrich Library, 2nd Floor Conference Room.

Our group is still formulating our mission and objectives, but we've made significant progress in the last meeting towards developing a plan for our urban forest and street trees. For instance, selecting native, resilient trees to replace dead trees and vacant plots on Main Street; setting up pruning schedules based on priority designations from recent Tree Inventory studies; partnering with local businesses to "adopt a tree" for watering and general care; as well as seeking out safety infrastructure to protect new and existing trees. And we have many more ideas floating around... It will be a busy Spring!
