The Economy for All Town Hall Tour
Rights & Democracy Education Fund to sponsor statewide tour to engage Vermonters on critical issues facing our communities
RUTLAND - What are the issues that matter most to Vermonters and what can we do to address them?
That's the focus of a statewide, seven-stop Economy for All Town Hall Tour of Vermont in March and April sponsored by the Rights & Democracy Education Fund (RADEF). RADEF is the 501(c)3 sister organization to Rights & Democracy.
Topics will include racial justice, raising the minimum wage, paid family and medical leave, universal health care, ensuring clean water, a just transition to a 100% real renewable future, and more.
"At a time when legislators are debating and discussing some of the most important issues facing out state, if not our country, we see these forums as a way to bring people together to talk about their shared experiences and facilitate a discussion about what they want see for solutions in their communities and in the Legislature," said James Haslam, Executive Director of RADEF and RAD.
Town Halls are planned for Bellows Falls, Rutland, St. Albans, Hardwick, Waitsfield, Vergennes, and Montpelier, among other possible locations. Local groups, such as the Rutland Area NAACP and the Vermont Youth Lobby, are co-sponsoring select events.
The special guest speaker at each of the Town Halls will be Lt. Governor David Zuckerman. Additional speakers will include local legislators, community leaders, and community members who are working on ways to solve these issues in their community or across the state.
"Events like these allow political leaders a chance to hear first-hand from their constituents," said Lt. Governor Zuckerman. "I personally look forward to this opportunity to listen to Vermonters and better understand the day to day issues they are facing and the ideas they have for our state."
The events will be free, open to the public, and many of them will provide free food and beverages.
