Past event
Mar 12, 2019, 6:30 to 8 PM

The Woodbury Library and Jeudevine Library present a discussion about the civil rights era on Tuesday, March 12 at 6:30 PM through the eyes of someone who participated in the movement as part of the VT Reads Discussions about MARCH, a graphic novel about the well-know civil rights advocated John Lewis.

Lyndonville resident Penny Patch will speak about her time as an organizer for SNCC (Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee) from 1962-1965 in Georgia and Mississippi. She organized and participated in demonstrations to desegregate public accommodations, took part in sit-ins, assisted with voter registration, got arrested, and taught in Freedom Schools.

Free copies of the graphic novel "March" by John Lewis, former chairman of SNCC and current congressman, are available at the Jeudevine Memorial Library and Woodbury Community Library. These books are provided by the Vermont Humanities Council through the Vermont Reads program. The program will take place at the Jeudevine Library. For more information about the program call the Jeudevine Library at 472-5948.
