Description
Lisa Jackson's heartbreaking but beautiful film, "The Greatest Silence, Rape in the Congo," will be the centerpiece of a workshop, addressing rape as a weapon of war. In the film, interviews with survivors, women's advocates, the rapists themselves, and Dr. Denis Mukwege, 2018 Nobel Peace laureate and founder of Panzi Hospital in Eastern Congo, alternate with breathtaking panoramas of the region and the history of the conflict.
Prior to the screening, Cleophace Mukeba, Founder and Executive Director of the Vermont Ibutwa Initiative, will outline the organization's three- pronged approach to helping victims of sexual violence in South Kivu rebuild their lives. The workshop will conclude with a question and answer session led by Cleophace and Laurie Gagne, Chair of Ibutwa's Board of Directors.
