Vernal Pool Monitors Needed - Training Wednesday

Past event
Feb 27, 2019, 6 to 7:30 PM

Vernal pools are those shallow ponds of meltwater that form in the forest in spring, which then dry up by midsummer. They are incredibly vibrant sources of life, hosting salamanders, frogs, and others as breeding pools and nurseries. The Vermont Center for Ecostudies is managing a state-wide program to document and monitor Vermont's vernal pools. Additional citizen scientist monitors are especially needed in southern Vermont. There are seven free training sessions this spring, including one at Hogback this Wednesday, Feb 27, indoors at the Southern Vermont Natural History Museum, from 6:00-7:30 pm. There will be a follow-up training session on April 28, which will include a visit to a Hogback vernal pool for some hands-on experience. To sign up for the training, contact Alex Wells at awells@vtecostudies.org. To learn more about the state-wide project, go to vtecostudies.org and click the Projects tab.
