Hey, you. Yes, you! Want to learn more about Black History Month? Then stop by the O'Brien Community Center on February 28, 2019 from 11 am-3 pm.
The department of Parks and Recreation will be showcasing interactive station that will take you on a journey through history while enjoying light refreshments.
You will find the following stations:
- An in-depth tour of the origins of Black history month and where it all began
- A peek through history of the Chittenden County area during 1909 when the buffalo soldiers were stationed here in the Vermont region
- A salute to famous black/ African American Vermonters throughout history
- Knowledge of the patterns used to communicate with runaway slaves, conductors and abolitionist leaders along the Underground Railroad
- A journey of a birds eye view of the trails and route used by slaves to gain their freedom by way of the underground rail road
- An interactive tour will ask visitors to express what freedom means to them today as visitors and residents of Winooski
